Niu Jichang (1907— ), style name Wenqing. A native of Changping, Hebei.

In 1934, he graduated from the Chinese Language Department of National Beiping Normal University. After graduation, he served as a teacher at Henan Provincial Anyang Senior High School.

During the Anti-Japanese War, he taught at the School of Law of Peking University and concurrently held positions as compiler at the Chinese Great Dictionary Compilation Office and as Chinese-language teacher at Beiping No. 3 Middle School.

In 1939, he became a member of the “North China Cultural and Educational Association”, founded by Shen Jianshi and other teachers of Fu Jen Catholic University, which advocated upholding the principles of “loving the country, loving the people, not collaborating with the enemy, and not surrendering” in Japanese-occupied areas. In September 1943, together with Ying Qianli and more than twenty others, he was arrested by the Japanese army and subjected to severe torture.

In 1947, he served as a lecturer in the National Language Specialization Program at Beiping Normal College.

In 1953, he taught at the Beijing Teachers Advanced Training College.
